Who is the client?

TransferWise is one of the largest FinTech companies based in London, their service allows its customers to transfer money around the world at the lowest possible cost. With a brand new office in The Tea Building, Shoreditch, London, they required an integrated AV solution to enhance communication between staff across global offices.

How did the work come about?

Transferwise had previously employed the services of different AV companies for their other offices. They had a mixture of consumer grade hardware mixed with some recently purchased professional microphones and DSP’s, however the solution was not easy to use.

MVS were referred to the client by the office design company, and we worked alongside the client’s project manager, and their People & Environment manager.

After a consultation period involving other potential suppliers, MVS were selected to take on this new project. During the consultation period, MVS demonstrated a number of wireless presentation devices, as well as options for video conferencing. The decision to choose MVS was reached because our team were able to demonstrate a tailored AV solution that matched both their needs and budget.

What was installed?

The new office required a complete re-fit which included 3 large meeting spaces, 7 huddle rooms, a large conference room and a presentation space.

Working alongside the office fit out contractor, the 12 week programme was a fit out of a traditional Shoreditch style industrial space, which presented many obstacles when it came to room acoustics. Working with the client, and the fit-out company we designed solutions which were ideal for these tough site conditions, whilst advising the client on other acoustic treatments that could be used to enhance the performance.

All of the large meeting spaces had 2 Samsung screens installed side by side, with Barco Clickshare for wireless presentation. Chromebox for meetings was the chosen video conferencing platform, allowing dual screen google hangout calls. Clearone Beamforming microphones were mounted from the ceiling to enable all participants to be picked up clearly. Crestron iPad control offered a simple control interface for all the hardware in these spaces.

One of the large meeting rooms opened into a larger space, and in this scenario the Crestron system automatically reconfigured the AV hardware when the partition wall was removed. This larger space displayed the video on further screens, and allowed other beamforming microphones to automatically be connected into the video conferencing system.

For the huddle spaces, single Samsung screens were installed with webcams fitted connected to Mac Mini PC’s, which in turn allowed communication via the client’s chosen video conferencing solution. Simple control keypads were installed allowing control of the rooms AV hardware.

The presentation space needed to cater for upto 100 people to join weekly Town Hall meetings, via video conferencing. 2 large ceiling 3 meter wide projection screens allowing dual screen google hangout calls via Chromebox for meeting were installed alongside 6000 Lumens optoma projectors. As well as Shure handheld & lapel microphones a Catchbox was installed allowing all members of the call to easily join in.

This large presentation space, also doubles up as the staff chill out area, and therefore a Bose music system with ceiling speakers and subwoofers were used enabling the client to use the presentation space for evening events, and staff get togethers.

The music system extended through the office, onto the roof top terrace, with Bose DS16 ceiling speakers, all centrally controlled from a Yamaha MTX3 DSP.

In the open spaces of the office, screens were installed allowing simple communication with staff via digital signage.

Which products were used?

‘The Transferwise office is exactly what you would expect from a fintech company operating in the heart of Shoreditch, and it’s one of my personal favorites. The Chromebox for a meeting room solution was the first deployment MVS had completed, and for companies using google hangouts as their chosen VC platform, it’s an excellent product to enhance the traditional PC/laptop based interface. The AV is really simple to use, which was key from day 1. My favorite part of the job has to be the large presentation area, it was a challenging to find the right solution in a space that had a lot of structure obstructions, but the final result was exactly what the client wanted.’

Have they got any future plans to work with MVS?

MVS are now providing AV maintenance services in the Shoreditch office and have been providing other Transferwise offices around Europe with the hardware that they require.
