MVS were the successful integrator for a public sector tender; beating some of the larger firms in the UK!

The process was open to anyone who wanted to bid for the works, an incentive set by governments to open tender work in the hope that it encourages more SMEs to bid for and win government work.

Catapult wanted to integrate a large format touchscreen into their open, flexible presentation areas called the media wall rooms. Alongside the touchscreen was a Barco Clickshare CSC1 for wireless presentation, a webcam for video calls and a Crestron control pad for ease of use. There were two of these systems in the office in a multi-purpose room. The walls were robotic and could move to allow flexibility of the room type.

The most prominent area in the office space was the Open Event Space; a large area designed for company presentations or for customers to hire the space for their own presentations. The system was designed to use a high bright, laser projector (Optoma ZU650), Ecler speakers for audio reproduction alongside Extron amplifiers and DSP. The video management and switching was controlled by a Crestron DMPS-4K-150-C-Switcher. The beauty of this product was the inbuilt processor to manage all functions internally without the need for a separate piece of hardware. The system was controlled by a bespoke GUI on a iPad.

There were number of huddle spaces, meeting rooms and open office area screens installed across the building by the MVS team.

The client provided a kit list for all companies to price against; their in-house AV team came up with the initial specification. The client was looking to procure the most cost-effective and commercially sound option for the installation of equipment and the maintenance of their entire AV estate in Milton Keynes. The MVS proposal put together by Alistair Maher, Business Development Manager at MVS, was considered the best solution and after the interview stages MVS were the only consideration for the client.

The client is familiar with Audio Visual systems and equipment as they were able to use existing specifications on site to create similar working solutions. MVS were on hand to support the client and technically assess the specification and make recommendations where required.

The tender process was familiar to other tenders MVS have bid for so we were comfortable with this aspect of the project. Working alongside ITC Concepts (Main Contractor) was also a familiar process as we work on building sites every day of the week. All in all, it was a straightforward and successful project for all parties involved.

One aspect of the project called for collaboration between a number of companies to deliver the desired result for our client. The client wanted some large (84”) LG touchscreens to be installed onto a ‘robotic wall’. The weight of the screens was a big factor in the design of the robotic wall along with the appropriate bracket fixings required to keep the screen on a moveable wall. Initially the main contractor did not calculate the strength of the wall correctly and we advised we could not install the screen onto the wall until modifications were made. Once these were made the robotic wall was structurally sound and the client had the use of a flexible space in which to utilize their new investment.
